Two people ended up in hospital with serious injuries after a Ka-52 military helicopter accidentally opened fire towards the spectators who were watching the Zapad-2017 exercises, writes The Moscow Times.

According to 66.ru, the incident took place on the Lujchi polygon in western Russia.

However, the exact day when the horrific accident has happened is not known, but it’s believed it was on 17th or 18th September, one day before the visit of President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergey Soigu at the same polygon.

The source quoted by the news portal revealed the helicopter had suffered a technical malfunction and that’s why the missiles were accidentally triggered.

“At least two cars have been burned, while the two persons who have been seriously injured are now hospitalized,”, adding that most likely the victims are journalists.

For now, the incident has not been confirmed by any official source from Russia.

By September 20, Russia and Belarus, the only Kremlin ally with a point of action towards the Baltic Sea area, will be deployed on Thursday, September 2017, the largest military exercise of the Russian forces since the Cold War.

The Pentagon labeled these massive military demonstrations as a hidden plan of Moscow to strengthen its strategic bastion on the Baltic border of NATO, and North Atlantic Alliance officials, European experts and political leaders have repeatedly drawn attention to Russia’s violation of the provisions of the Vienna Document and that it would deploy a much larger number than the one reported: not 13,000, but around 100,000.

The Zapad-2017 is, most of the times, organized in Belarus, in the ultra-militarized enclave of Kaliningrad and in several regions of northwestern Russia.
