On Sunday, two armed men have opened the fire on the crowd gathered for the evening prayer at a cultural Islamist center.

The event took place in Quebec, in southeastern Canada.

The attackers have caused the death of five people and injured other tens.

Apparently, the two hooded individuals broke into the cultural center somewhere around 20:00 (Monday 00:45 GMT), as several people have witnessed.

So, immediately after the fire shots, several authorized teams were sent to the crime scene.

In the meantime, the wounded were receiving first aid treatment in the ambulances that arrived at the scene of the tragedy.

‘I was told there were five dead’, said Mohammed Yangi, the president of the Cultural Islamist Center in Quebec.

Consequently, a spokesman from Quebec Police Department has confirmed on TV that people have died due to the armed attack, but did not specify their number.

An extensive police operation was launched after the armed attack.

Also, two suspects were arrested, including one found a few kilometers away from the crime scene. It seems like he was trying to exit the country.

The head of the government, Philippe Couillard, has also condemned this attack against Muslims.

‘Quebec rejects this act of cruelty. Let us unite against violence. We are in solidarity with the Muslim inhabitants of Quebec’, he wrote on his Twitter account.

‘I condemn this absurd act’, said, in turn, the city mayor, Regis Labeaume.

In the chaos, it is difficult to determine the number of people attending the Sunday prayers. Generally, between 60 and 100 people are attending each evening the prayers in that mosque, said Mohammed Yang.
