Trump-Putin: the phone call strengthened the mutual respect between them

The long-awaited phone call between the American President, Donald Trump, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, finally occurred this Saturday.


The Russian Foreign Minister, Serghei Lavrov, stated that this conversation only proved deep respect for each other.


During a press conference, sustained besides his Eritrean colleague, Lavrov claimed that the two presidents engaged in a mutual understanding of their general views.


‘That was a good talk, both politically and personally. They agreed to continue their collaboration as experts regarding some future agreements’, added Lavrov.


Their conversation lasted for about 50 minutes and it has been expected by the whole world, as a possible closeness of Trump to the Kremlin is widely feared.


Both Trump and Putin agreed on overcoming the terrorist attacks of ISIS.


Also, Vladimir Putin has mentioned that Russia is currently considering the US as being its most important ally in the fight against terrorists.


Furthermore, the two leaders have agreed on maintaining a permanent communication.


They specifically requested their administrations to arrange a face-to-face meeting.


The common target of Russia and the US is to develop and stabilize the relationship between the two countries.


Among the debated subjects, it has been mentioned the Iranian nuclear program, the Arab-Israeli conflict and the situation in the Korean peninsula.


Consequently, Kremlin’s declaration did not mention whether the two have talked about US’s sanctions applied to Russia.


During an earlier press conference, held beside Theresa May, Trump declared that his final decision regarding Russia’s sanctions has not been made yet.


Also, Trump has called the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, and the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.
