The President of the US, Donald Trump, and the interim President of South Korea, Hwang Kyo-Ahn, have made an agreement on Sunday.

Apparently, during a telephone conversation, they agreed on the need to strengthen the capacities of defense against North Korea.

The announcement came directly from the White House and was quoted by AFP.

‘The two leaders agreed to take steps forward to strengthen the joint defense capabilities against the North Korean threat’. The statement was transmitted by the American presidency in a press release after the call.

‘President Trump reiterated our absolute commitment to defend the Republic of Korea, providing a full range of military capabilities’, stated the document.

Also, the two leaders discussed upon the visit to South Korea of the US Secretary of Defense, James Mattis. The Minister will travel to Japan on February 3rd.

During his victorious campaign, US President spoke publicly about the possibility of withdrawing the American troops from the southern Korean Peninsula and the Japanese archipelago.

Apparently, this decision was determined in the absence of the financial contribution of the two countries.

Furthermore, these statements have sparked fears of a possible revaluation of the US military engagement. This would happen in a region where China is advancing and North Korea is multiplying the challenges.

In his speech on New Year’s Eve, the Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un, announced the imminent intercontinental ballistic test.

In conclusion, North Korea is seeking to acquire this technology, to be able to threaten the US with nuclear strikes.

Sadly, this means the violation of numerous resolutions of the UN Security Council.
