A project called Digital Village will ensure that over 1,000 villages across India will have free Wi-Fi.

The decision comes from the government. In just six months, villagers will beneficiate from free wi-fi. The officials will make sure that a hotspot will be placed in each town.

Many firms, both international and local ones, have waited for a long time to have clients in these people. About 900 million people do not have internet connection.

Google and Facebook have been some of the ones to wait for this.

Until now, Google installed free wi-fi service in 100 railways.

Facebook, on the other hand, is still looking for a way to get in the Indian market. It had a plan to install free wi-fi for Indians, but the government refused.

About a year ago, Facebook launched an initiative called “Free Basics” with the main purpose of giving free internet connection. Several communities were against it and so, this couldn’t happen then.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was one that was against Free Basics.

The plan the government has costs $62 million. After this, villages will have the free wi-fi services, the plan will expand for other areas across the country.

The government has a previous plan, of bringing internet fiber-optic cables across the nation.

This will enable the country to reach its plan of an economy based on technology.

Although their help is needed to accomplish this plan, several businesses didn’t want to build network connection. The price it requires is definitely high.
