The Vanity Fair cover featuring Melania Trump infuriated Mexicans.

Her appearance takes place shortly after her husband, the new American president, signed an executive order that gives green light to the wall, reports The Telegraph.

In the photo published in the February issue, the First Lady is holding a fork while she is ‘enjoying’ a bowl with diamonds and jewellery.

According to Mexicans, the image is quite discrepant with the country in which more than half of the population is struggling with poverty.

“Melania Trump, on the February cover. A report that unveils the First Lady’s past” –  is an announcement made on Twitter.

According to some Twitter users, the issue that features the First Lady is unrefined and the worst in the Vanity Fair history.

As a response, Vanity Fair Mexic, published a press release, saying that the publication is “separating” from the offending messages on social media.

“We understand the complicated moment that coincided with our new cover but our intention was to make a contribution, as always, with an independent and critical point of view”, says Vanity Fair.

On Twitter, Vanity Fair Mexico: “No, this is not an adulatory story. We are inviting you to read the premiere of the Melania Trump story”.

At the end of December, Donald Trump criticized Vanity Fair, saying the magazine is “dead”.

During Donald Trump’s campaign, Vanity Fair constantly criticized him.
