Adopting a Mediterranean diet can provide the much-needed help for those people suffering from severe depression.

The news was published by Xinhua on Tuesday, according to a recent study performed by a team of scientists from Australia.

The Mediterranean Diet is quite known for some time to have significant physical benefits.

Now, researchers at Deakin University in Melbourne have found that it can also help the people suffering from mental disorders.

The team at Deakin has studied the effects of this type of diet on a group of patients diagnosed with a major depressive disorder.

They were asked to consume for 12 weeks foods based on a diet that prevailed proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs, olive oil and nuts.

And, scientists have observed that one-third of the participants said they had noticed a significant improvement in their health status, spirit and general symptoms.

According to the director of the Center for Food and Mood, the Mediterranean diet has been previously associated with positive results on cardiovascular health, reducing the risk of diabetes and increasing longevity.

We already knew that the diet has a very strong impact on our body’s biological aspects and can influence the risk of organisms to develop depression.

The immune system, the gut microbiome and our brain plasticity appear to have a central role not only on our physical health, but also on a mental level.

So, the food, of course, is the main factor of influencing the gut microbiome.

In conclusion, the Mediterranean diet helps you lose weight, adopt a healthy lifestyle with ease, have a more radiant and glowing complexion.
