US won’t drop the drone attacks: The American policy remains unchanged

The White House declared on Tuesday that the US policy regarding the drone attacks in other countries will remain unchanged.

The announcement came after Sean Spicer, Donald Trump’s spokesman, stated the contrary.

‘The American policy on the possible targeting of US citizens has not changed’, said a spokeswoman of the executive in Washington.

The source quoted Eric Holder, the former justice minister in the administration of President Barack Obama, according to whom the option was legal in certain cases.

Sean Spicer had earlier mentioned that no American will ever be targeted.

‘The United States won’t deliberately take as a possible target the members of terrorists’ families’, added the spokesman.

Towards the end of 2015, during the election campaign, Donald Trump had stated that such an approach is favorable.

In September 2011, the death of the US-Yemeni imam, Anwar al-Awlaki supervened due to a drone attack that had caused major controversy in the US at that time.

Some experts wonder whether the US president has the right to authorize the killing of an American citizen abroad in the name of fighting terrorism.

“When an American goes abroad to fight his war against the US, that neither the United States nor its affiliates are able to capture before he could commit a plot, his nationality should not protect him”, argued Barack Obama, defending his decision.
