Scientists confirmed what has been considered a myth for too long.
“Urban meteorites” are a reality and you can find them even on the roof of your house.
Most likely, gutters and beams of your house are covered with clay, dry leaves and animals that have found a good hideout there.
Even if the spring cleaning will reveal and eliminate all these remains, researchers announced in there is a slight possibility to find, among all these, particles coming from celestial spheres.
300 kilograms of debris have been collected from several rooftops.
The team analyzed 48 samples and confirmed the identification of particles coming from celestial bodies.
These come as a result of the extreme melting of meteorites that reached Earth’s atmosphere.
Team’s discoveries included some of the youngest ever identified micro-meteorites.
However, we should not think that they can be seen with the naked eye.
The meteorites are not so easy to identify.
Based on the same source, the samples include some very small pieces, which have just a few microns.
This makes it difficult for scientists to work, as that are struggling to identify the celestial particles, using a powerful microscope.
The scientists have assumed that the stones had a terrestrial life between 0 and 50 years.
Although the idea of the existence of urban micrometeorites has long been considered a myth, the recent findings demonstrated that they are as real as possible.
The team of researchers estimated that over 100 billion annual micrometeorites are falling towards the Earth.
This information proves to be very useful for scientists interested in studying celestial bodies components.
Instead of going through thousands of kilometers to Antarctica, researchers are able to analyze the areas where they live.
