When it comes to the way the new US president approaches the environmental issues, the Australian chief scientist thinks he is a lot like Soviet leader, Josef Stalin.
Alan Finkel thinks that Donald Trump wants to manipulate science in the same way Stalin did. The new president wants to censor the data regarding the environment.
On Monday, he opened up about the American president. He fears that the future of science has a lot to suffer from his actions. He points to his colleagues, who need to give advice.
Last week, Trump decided that any data that goes public needs to be reviewed by a team first.
Finkel thinks that this will affect for a long time the science.
He thinks that this censorship is similar to one performed in Russia in the soviet years.
“Every military commander there had a political officer second-guessing his decisions,” declared the chief scientist.
He adds that Stalin loved one of the country’s scientist’s findings and only wanted to keep them private. He wanted only his country to beneficiate from it.
Finkel adds that because of this and only respecting that scientist’s theories, the agriculture had to suffer. In the occident, the theories were different and over the years, they proved to be benefic.
As the history won’t repeat itself, Finkel thinks that US should receive advice on these matters.
The Environmental Protection Agency is the one that chose to implement this censorship, says Press Secretary Sean Spicer. The White House only respected its decision.
