Australia’s struggles with obesity

Australia, just like the United States, confronts with a serious case of obesity.

According to data, more than a quarter Aussies are suffering from obesity.

Presidents from medical colleges from across the country warn that something needs to be done immediately. The government is the one that needs to raise awareness.

In the latest years, the Government tried to take some measures, but not enough results were shown. They tried to encourage physical activities and healthy eating. Unfortunately, their system has been labeled as flawed.

Nick Talley, who is the president of the Medical Colleges council, wrote an article on this matter. He finds unacceptable the fact that there is no policy about this.

Until now, they tried to implement some policies, but they are not developed enough. Talley thinks that they are just “bits and pieces” and that’s why no concrete result is seen.

They need to work together to come up with a sold, concrete plan. At the end of last year, the council, that features fifteen top professors, came up with a plan.

Since no improvement was made, they advise the Government to take their plan into consideration. Even if they add improvements, the professors will accept as they only want a measure to be taken.

Right now, something needs to be done regarding the whole country.

The Prime Minister approached the matter last week and said that they will do something soon. Australia also has a new Health Minister, who has amongst his plans obesity.

Everyone thinks that a measure should be taken immediately. All of the officials want to come up with a plan.
