An armed man took a large group of hostages in a mental facility from Istanbul.
According to the local press, the attacker locked the doctors and other members of the staff in a room and threatened to kill them.
As reported by BBC, the man promised to murder every single person from the room and, after he finishes, he will take his own life.
Turkish doctor Zekayi Kutlubay managed to escape from the attacker’s action radius and informed the authorities about the hostages.
He is currently locked in an office from the Cerahpasa hospital.
Multiple police units arrived at the Cerahpasa medical unit, where they initiated the negotiation process with the attacker.
The patients and other staff members were evacuated.
The attacker was not identified yet, but according to The Hurriyet, he is a police officer submitted in the psychiatric department.
The incident comes weeks after 39 persons were murdered and other 69 murdered during an armed attack in the Reina club during the New Year’s Eve party.
The attack was claimed by ISIS and the author was arrested last month in Istanbul.
