Politics just arrived on the runways too.
During New York Fashion Week, Calvin Klein chose to transmit a strong message to president Donald Trump.
Models strutted on the runway to David Bowie’s “This is not America”. The ones in attendance received bandanas with “unity, inclusion, hope”.
Raf Simons is the house’s designer. The fashion show took place on Friday. He revealed he wanted his show to express unity and acceptance of everyone. He is an immigrant himself, being born in Belgium.
Simons wants to use his voice and advises others to do so.
But Klein wasn’t the only house to make its fashion show about politics.
A Mexican designer, Raul Solis, expressed his true feelings about Trump’s immigration views and the wall he is going to build at the border.
Models sported clothing items and mostly underwear with the inscription: “F**k your wall”. Some of them had written “no ban, no wall”. The LRS Studio presented the items.
The designer also wanted to show woman empowerment. He didn’t want to get too political, but he stands for equality.
At Tommy Hilfiger’s show, models sported “unity” bandanas around their wrists. Gigi Hadid was one of them. Her sister also walked the runway.
Another house had a model sport a “We are all human beings” shirt.
At some shows, some figures wore pins for planned parenthood. Anna Wintour did.
Since Trump was elected and then, when he signed the executive order regarding the immigrants, Hollywood has been very vocal.
Actors and fashion designers have expressed their opposition.
Before this, some designers refused to dress the First Lady.
