On Sunday, legendary artist, Al Jarreau passed away. He was 76 years old.
Recently, the singer was hospitalized. He felt exhausted and even canceled his tour that was planned for this year.
He died in hospital with family and friends by his side.
Jarreau had an impressive career. He won seven Grammys in total. As Billboard says, he is the only singer to win Grammys for three different genres. He won for Jazz, what made him famous, R&B and pop.
His death was announced on his official website. The statement recalls his biggest passion: music. Although he lived for music, he always made the others a priority and tried to provide support for all.
He used his music as a method to comfort others. Making others feel good and ease their pain was something he liked to do.
The cause of death hasn’t been revealed yet.
He had a concert planned this month. On Friday, the late artist wrote an email to his fans, apologizing and saying that he needs to cancel his tour dates as the doctors advised him to.
In the statement released then, it is revealed Jarreau won’t go on tours anymore. He is thankful for his career and his fans and for the fifty amazing years he spent on the road.
His passion for music was developed after he joined the church’s choir. He had other plans, like studying psychology, but his passion for music made him move to Los Angeles, where he pursued his dream. He became a jazz singer.
His family asks his fans for donations towards a foundation he cared for: Wisconsin Foundation for School Music.
