WannaCry is still making victims to this day and it seems the transport system infrastructure is the most vulnerable in the face of this evil ransomware.
The administration of Victoria, Australia announced on Saturday their plans to cancel all traffic tickets because they discovered a virus in the system that controls the video cameras.
“That does not mean the notices are not going to be issued again”, stated Police deputy commissioner Doug Fryer, explaining that he wants to make sure that all the video cameras installed on the traffic lights and those meant to capture the speeders work in optimal parameters.
According to the authorities, 55 video cameras would have been affected by the virus
However, after a more thorough investigation, the Australian experts discovered that more than 280 cameras were infected.
Video cameras are not connected to the internet but they were infected after a maintenance employee connected a USB stick infected with WannaCry to one of the devices.
Fryer says that about 1.643 fines will be withdrawn
Also, 5.500 vouchers have been blocked in the system.
The Commissioner is optimistic regarding the 8.000 fines, but none would leave the system until the cameras are checked.
“We have one of the best camcorders in the world, so the event is very disappointing,” says Fryer, quoted by news.yahoo.com.
