Australian model Miranda Kerr returned the $8.1 million worth piece of jewelry to the American Department of Justice after the US prosecutors revealed the items were bought by a Malaysian businessman with money stolen from the government.
Miranda’s representatives claim the model has returned the gifts, including an eight-karat diamond pendant worth $3.8 million designed by Lorraine Schwartz.
“Since the beginning of the investigation, Miranda has fully cooperated and has returned the government her gifts.
Ms. Kerr will continue to cooperate in any possible way”, stated Miranda’s agent.
More than $4.5 billion have been stolen from a state fund in Malaysia, founded by Prime Minister Najub Razak, who denies his involvement.
Miranda received the jewelry back in 2014 from Jho Low, an investor who is also the center of this corruption case.
The US Department of Justice is trying to confiscate more than one billion pounds in assets, including a luxury yacht owned by Jho Low.
Miranda Kerr followed Leonardo DiCaprio’s example, forced to return about $3.2 million in art pieces, including a Picasso painting, also received from Jho Low.
The US authorities have not accused Miranda Kerr and Leonardo DiCaprio of violating any law.
