Prince Philip was hospitalized

The Duke of Edinburgh was hospitalized on Tuesday night and the surprising decision was adopted as a ‘precautionary measure’, the Buckingham Palace has announced quoted by BBC News.

Prince Philip is currently treated and monitored for an infection, the Royal House has revealed.

After 60 years, Prince Philip will no longer honor royal duties, the Buckingham Palace announced earlier this year.

The Prince is 96-year-old and he will officially retire in fall.

“The Duke will no longer accept invitations for visits and other engagements, though he may choose to attend public events from time to time”, suggests a press release signed by the Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace also announced that Queen Elizabeth II, 91, will continue to honor her official prerogatives.

Prince Philip is a mentor, president and member of more than 780 organizations.

He will continue to support them but he will no longer play an active role in terms of participating at social events and ceremonies.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip married on November 20, 1947.

Queen Elisabeth named him the Prince of the United Kingdom in 1957.

“My first, second and last task is never to let the queen fall”, said Prince Philip.

Elisabeth II declared in 2011 that Prince Philip was “her rock, her strength, and her support.”
