Cristiano Ronaldo is willing to pay up no less than 14.8 million euros just to avoid a potential jail sentence after he was accused of tax evasion, reported the Iberian press.
According to Cadena Cope, the star of Real Madrid has decided to pay the staggering amount and reached an agreement with the judges.
However, on July 31, Cristiano Ronaldo must attend to his first hearing at Madrid’s Prosecutor’s Office, after the authorities linked the brilliant athlete with an illegal image rights sale involving Ronaldo and his agent.
Before they decide to close the case and to reveal the final verdict, Cristiano Ronaldo has 60 days to pre-pay the amount of 14.8 million euros – a solution apparently suggested by his legal team.
The star of Europe’s champion is suspected of defrauding the Spanish state with 14.7 million euros between 2011 and 2014, using a corporate structure founded in 2010 to hide image-rights generated revenue.
According to elconfidencial.com, the Real Madrid group has urged Spanish newspapers not to use images in which Ronaldo is wearing the Real T-shirt because they don’t want to be associated with the scandal.
However, through an official communiqué, the club has asserted its unconditional support for the star.
“Since joining Real Madrid in July 2009, he has always shown his desire to pay his financial obligations,” the Spanish champion stated.
Real Madrid argues that Ronaldo’s decision to leave Real Madrid is irreversible.
