What can you do, as a user?

Installing a home router is a very simple thing to do. But, if you give a little more time to this action, to take some security measures, it will definitely be worth it on the long run.

Secure your connection using a reliable protocol – as WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access) and a strong password.

WPA is a standard connection that prevents a third-party from accessing the data transmitted through your network.

Typically, you have an option for encryption settings. If the router offers the option of different networks for “Guests”, you should secure it too.

As always, what is very convenient, is less certain.

The same happens with the option of remote access to the router. Our recommendation is to disable it because it can be a serious network vulnerability.

Speaking of that, you can also turn off the wireless router to automatically transmit the ID (named SSID) to your network.

The advantage is that the network will be more secure and the disadvantage will be that you have to enter the SSID whenever you’re connected to the network.
