London Fashion Week recap: political messages on the runway

The fashion week in London just kicked off. The first day was on Sunday. Like we encountered in New York, political messages made it to the shows again.

Gareth Pugh’s models sported black clothes and heavy makeup. The atmosphere was dark and went perfectly with the Marilyn Manson song. What’s more is the fact that the words “Build a wall” were chanted.

Models had keys in their hands and some sported hats inspired by the Nazi police, Gestapo. What the designer wanted to transmit is the threat imposed by the radical extremism. The track used is similar to the sleeping techniques from CIA.

The designer is known for making political statements on the runway, so this was no surprise.

While Pugh had a sober mood, the other designers had more cheerful runways. For example, Julien MacDonald, who walked hand in hand with model Winnie Harlow. This designer had lots of sexy and revealing looks and was not afraid of deep colors. Sequins and glitter were also present.

MacDonald wasn’t seen as well in the fashion world in the past years, but now he definitely won his position. His outfits are always encountered on the red carpet.

Versus Versace also held its show. The models sported sexy and sporty looks and the atmosphere was very club-like. Famous faces were seen on the runway.

Versace’s show perfectly captured the fashion of the moment, that is fun and sexy. More shows are going to take place, before the fashion week moves to Paris.
