Sergei Lavrov qualified NATO’s actions in Russia as provocative

NATO’s actions near the Russian border are considered to be disturbing and damaging, said the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.

His declarations were published in an interview in Izvestia on Friday, according to RIA Novosti.

The actions undertaken by the Alliance in the regions adjacent to the Russian border, without a doubt, are disturbing and damaging, insisted Lavrov.

He referred to the arrangement of the supplementary military contingent in Poland and the Baltic area.

Among other things, discussions are held regarding the possibility of the similar presence of allies in other countries located in the Eastern Europe, especially Bulgaria and Romania.

The chief diplomat of Moscow placed in the same category of actions the ‘steady exertion by the separate member countries of the block of national plans to modernize the armed forces and the construction of new military groundwork and significant growth in the number and scale exercises near our borders’.

Another particular concern is raised by the further construction of the US missile defense system in Europe.
