NASA, building a rover to travel on Mars in 2020

In 2020, NASA will send a new rover on Mars

However, the exact place of its landing it’s still an issue for the scientists.

NASA will host its annual working shops at the Doubletree Monrovia Hotel between 8 and 10 February.

According to Iflscience.com, the meeting is also the perfect occasion to discuss the landing spot.

Currently, they are debating between eight landing spots.

Apparently, the site must fulfill a crucial condition: the potential of becoming a living space for the robot.

At its last landing in 2015, the best spot is an ancient drought lake, also known as the Jezero Crater.

The second potential spot is the exact landing location of the NASA’s Spirit from 2002.

The massive debate will focus on the third and fourth spot.

According to the American organization, the fourth shop will take place right before the mission and NASA will adopt the final decision regarding the exact landing location.

The potential locations were evaluated by Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter satellite.

Using the images from MRO, the scientists will create a 3D map to check which is the perfect spot and if the area is packed with pebbles.

So far, MRO analyzed 45 locations.

The Mars rover will land in 2020 and its launching is set to take place in July 2020.

Its arrival on Mars will occur in 2021. The date coincides with the arrival of European rover ESA’s Exomars.

The robots will join their forces to create the most elaborate Mars study ever.
