President Trump chatted on the phone with NATO’s General Secretary

President Trump had a long phone conversation with NATO’s General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg.

The President accepted Stoltenberg suggestion to attend a meeting in Europe in May.

According to Reuters, Trump has a ‘more complicated’ relationship with the North-Atlantic Alliance because during his political campaign he promised to cut the US financing meant to defend other allies.

He also mentioned he will not respect the ‘fifth article’ from the NATO treaty.

These controversial statements represent the exact opposite politics promoted by the previous presidents and attracted many critics.

Meanwhile, the European allies expressed their fear that the only state leader who might become advantaged by Trump’s policy is Vladimir Putin.

According to the White House, they also chatted about a “potential peaceful solution for the Ukrainian border conflict”, after, in the last month, the Government and the pro-Russian insurgence from Donbas generated a massive conflict.

More than 40 persons lost their lives and 10.000 militants and civilians died in the last two years in Eastern Ukraine.

Also in May, Donald Trump will attend the G7 summit, which will unfold in Italy.

The summit marks President Trump’s first visit in Europe as a state leader.
