British supermarkets to feature a plastic-free aisle

To prevent plastic packaging from reaching the oceans, supermarkets are advised to implement an aisle with no plastic. The idea is good, as millions of plastic are polluting the ocean.

According to data, annually, more than 300 million plastic reach the oceans across the world. Only a small percentage is recyclable, while the others become dangerous as they reach the seas.

This plan now targets the United Kingdom. An organization entitled “A Plastic Planet” is the one that came up with the idea. It urges all the supermarkets in the country to try to take a measure in the following weeks.

They should try to offer as much food with biodegradable packaging as possible.

The government is also trying to take measures in this way. They plan on making a change to the plastic bottles, adding about 20p to them. This will make recycling much easier and decrease waste.

A member of the Plastic Oceans Foundation will meet with representatives of some major supermarkets to talk about this idea.

Plastic is incredibly harmful for our planet. Something concrete cannot be done as the majority of food we buy is packaged in plastic.

However, even a small change is welcomed. There are plenty of choices of foods that are not packaged in plastic.

Introducing completely organic aisles is a good start.

Not only the environment is affected, but according to researchers, consuming foods that come in plastic packaging also represents a danger for our health.

This plan will be implemented in the following weeks and will be a very simple one. Many supermarkets are already open to negotiations and taking part of this initiative.
