The economic and monetary crisis is depriving the biggest fans of sugar in the world from their favorite product.

In supermarkets across the country, the shelves are empty, and each new supply is exhausted within an hour.

Apparently, the main issue is the low value of the Egyptian pound, which blocks the country from importing the usual amounts.

Egypt consumes three million tons of sugar per year. One million from the total amount is imported, writes Direct Matin.

To make matters worse, the Egyptian government reduced the subsidies for basic necessities, while they are expecting to obtain the 22 billion euros loan from FMI.

In these circumstances, the sugar is rationed, and those who are not able to put their hands on it are not allowed to buy more than a kilogram once. Most times, the sugar is found only in the most luxurious supermarkets. A waiter was arrested in the street by the police for carrying 10 kg of sugar.

One of the largest producers of sugar in the country was also raided and accused of making reservations for the black market. Approximately 9,000 tons were seized in the factories.

Officially, the hidden stashes were supposed to be sold at a much lower price in the Egyptian supermarkets. Some Egyptians accused the army, who allegedly, initiated this seizure to use the supply for personal purposes.

The population is exasperated by this situation, because after the critical situation from the supermarkets, the situation from the pharmacies is more likely to become the same
