A new homeless shelter is being built in Paris. The neighborhood is select and the neighbors are angry. People that live in the area had done a lot of complaints, but the mayor remained adamant. The center will open soon, as the residents of the neighborhood are dissatisfied.
There are around 143,000 people who sleep on the streets of Paris. The city hall always sought solutions and now is about to solve the problem.
Dominique Breton, a homeless person: ‘For six months I expected for a shelter. We are all waiting. As far as I know, you can wait between one month and two years to live somewhere. Then we’ll see what happens.’
In the middle of nature, between the trees in the Bois de Boulogne, was visibly built a center that can accommodate 200 people. They will have 3 meals per day, assistance in finding a job and vocational training. Those interested will be here between 3 and 6 months until they will be given a social housing.
But the locals are angry.
It was a terrible shock to see this huge thing, an enormous work to house people who could sit anywhere else where there are other empty seats. It’s a lot of space elsewhere.
It’s all over the place in France where such a center can be located without destroying areas like this. All major European capitals and elsewhere always have appropriate neighborhoods, why destroy Paris? Many of us want to leave, some will move.
In the four months since the construction began there were four fires. The police suspected that every time the fire was started intentionally. They never found the one who did it.
