The US newspaper will use the program meant to automatically update the latest news from the day of the election, writes Wall Street Journal.

The program, called Heliograph will centralize all the news and results regarding the elections from the Chamber of Representatives, the Senate and the governors from each US state.

The main purpose of Heliograph is to use artificial intelligence to support the amazing team of 60 journalists who will report every detail related to the election.

‘This program will provide the Washington Post readers a high-quality coverage at all levels and also will be used to alert reporters about the things you might not see or they will attract the attention on the electoral competition that did not expect to be so close’, said director for strategic initiatives of the Washington Post Jeremy Gilbert.

The U.S. newspaper tested the program during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer.

Using the prescribed models and materials, Heliograph will automatically update the news as the results will appear, stated Sam Han, director of science information of the newspaper.

Journalists will add their own materials, analyzes or they will give a particular color to the most important updates to be highlighted properly even if the program will be able to insert some analyses in the less important news, added Sam Han.

The program will use a localization feature to post in the top of the page stories about some regional electoral competition when the information is viewed by a person in the region.

In addition, Heliograph will alert the team of journalists if one of the candidates has a much lower position in a particular competition.
