It only lasts 45 seconds and contains four words.
Although some users believe the tune is the most annoying thing ever, labeling it as a literal joke for the music industry, the hit launched by the Japanese artist turned him into a global star.
Piko-Taro represents an alter ego of the Japanese comedian and DJ Daimaou Kosaka.
The Japanese artist was contacted on Friday by a Guinness World Records team to formally announce him that ‘Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen’ will be included in their Book of Records.
Apparently, PPAP is the shortest tune that ever made it to the Billboard Top 100.
Piko-Taro said that he never imagined ‘Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen’ in a top conducted by Billboard because he created the tune in a few hours, as a complete joke.
‘In the past, I used to have shown in front of an audience formed by zero or one person’, joked the 43-years-old artist, during a press conference held in a club from Japan.
‘Finally something like this happened … The Internet is a wonderful thing’, added the DJ.
Creating the massive hit was not the biggest headache and the clip cost Taro only 100,000 yen.
Although in Japan PPAP was quite popular, the song went viral worldwide after Bieber shared the clip on one of its social media pages, commenting that ‘this is my favorite clip on the Internet’.
The post shared by Bieber brought Piko-Taro no less than 89 million new followers, 65,000 shares, and 120,000 likes.
