A group of scientists claim they discovered a natural compound found in avocados, broccoli, cabbage, and cucumber, that has a ‘remarkable anti-aging effect in mice’ and that it might work in humans.

The study of the research was published in the Cell Metabolism journal, reports Science Daily.

The researchers initiated the trials on a small group of people and, allegedly, they noticed the first effects after they tested the substance on mice with of advanced age.

Apparently, they administrated the compound called NMN to mice when they were feeding them with water.

Their level of physical activity increased, the density of the bones and the condition of the muscles improved visibly. In addition, their immune system, their vision, the liver reported improved values better and the loss of weight was also obvious.

The scientists began by researching the properties of a protein called NAD, strongly involved in producing the energy in our bodies.

While we get older, the production of this compound starts to decrease.

So far, other attempts to supplement the amount of NAD failed and the researchers are looking for other methods to increase the protein production.

‘The answer is yes, NMN has remarkable anti-aging effects in mice’, said Professor Shin-Ichiro Imai from the University of Washington, who supervised the research.

The professor seemed very optimistic regarding the clinical trials on humans, which began in Japan.

But there is also a negative aspect regarding this method. Since NMN accelerates the production of cells, it might increase the production of cancerous cells as well.
