The photo was taken on October 14 and the bearing of the Antares rocket belongs to Orbital ATK. In the image, Antares is standing in a vertical position, prepared to launch the Cygnus capsule at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.
Orbital ATK Company concluded sealed a contract with the NASA International Space Station. The Cygnus capsule will carry more than 2.3 tons of scientific equipment and supplies for the crew from the space outpost.
NASA decided to postpone the launch of the supplying mission which was meant to take place on Thursday (October 13th) due to the fear that the tropical storm Nicole formed in the Atlantic might hit an important part of the organization’s infrastructure in Bermuda.
Although the launch was supposed to take place in the US state of Virginia, Bermuda is a monitoring station which provides crucial support for the mission, according to NASA, which has delayed the launch for Sunday night.
Later it was decided to postpone the supplying mission with another 24 hours due to technical problems.
Orbit has a total capacity of carrying five tons. Antares is the most powerful rocket operated by the company Orbital ATK.
This is the first time since 2014 when this type of rocket was produced by the private company Orbital ATK.
In 2014 one of their airspace devices exploded before its launching. Now, the rocket went through a series of changes that have cost the people from Orbital ATK nearly $15 million. Its engines were replaced with another one produced in Russia.
NASA pays private companies like SpaceX or Orbital ATK to supply the International Space Station.
