Men with short beards are considered of the most attractive for women

Men with fresh grown beards are considered by women the hottest, shows a powerful new engine of Australian researchers, however, are favorites just for short-term relationships.

The research conducted by scientists at the University of Queensland, Australia, shows that men who started a beard are preferred by women for short term relationships, while those who have beards are a bigger favorite for long-term bonds.

Results of the study, conducted on a sample of 8,520 women, published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology, reports Medical News Today, and according to it, men with facial hair are the preferred choice of women for long-term relationships instead of shaved or with a short beard.

Scientists have photographed 36 men in three stages of growth of facial hair: shaved, with a short beard and with a long beard (at least four weeks). In addition, photographs of 16 of these were modified to accentuate or diminish masculine or feminine traits.

They then asked a number of 8,520 women to see all pictures, to rank the attractiveness of each man and to express their opinion on how attractive they find them for short and long term relations.

In general, the beardless men, with masculine traits were considered the least attractive. The following were the ones with feminine traits and the most attractive faces of the photos were unchanged.

Assessing the effects of facial hair, in women’s opinion regarding attractiveness, researchers have found that men with short beards were considered the most attractive compared to those with longer beards or those freshly shaved.

But in relations, scientists have observed that women preferred men with a beard for long-term relationships. Those with the fresh start of a beard and shaved were preferred for short-term relationships.

According to the research team, the explanation is that the start of a beard and long beard masks especially traits considered by women as unattractive, representatives of too masculine or too feminine features.
