The North Korean leader inherited an army with serious problems caused by corruption, according to a confidential document published on Tuesday by the South Korean television network MBC South Korean.
The official report, which dated from April 2012 suggested that one of the People’s Army units is located 50 kilometers north of Pyongyang, while 75% of the military equipment was labeled as ‘inoperable’ because they are oxidized and dusty.
According to MBC, the North Korean authorities initiated this document to assess the actual situation of the military forces during the period Kim Jong-un took the power from his father in December 2011.
The report accessed by the South Korean station assigns the malfunctioning of Kim Jong-Un’s army rooted by the corruption, especially among its senior officials.
According to the document, at that time the North Korean army suffered from a ‘serious food shortage’ caused by commanders who were selling the rice to obtain material benefits.
Today, four years and a half after the report was created no one actually knows to what extent the corrupt system affected the army of the North Korean regime.
The experts noticed on numerous occasions that Kim Jong-un has launched a campaign against the corruption in the military field.
The North Korean Government stated in September that it had successfully detonated a nuclear warhead, marking Pyongyang’s fifth and most powerful nuclear test to date. Lee said that the country may undertake “a sixth, a seventh, or an eighth” nuclear test in the future.
