The Turkish authorities are closing their eyes while their fellows are practicing the cruelest tortures on the prisoners detained during and after the failed coup attempt, suggested a Human Rights Watch report on Tuesday.

Currently, the humanitarian organization is investigating the rumors regarding the treatment applied to the 35,000 prisoners, who were arrested because, allegedly, they were linked with the Muslim cleric.

The state of emergency imposed by the Turkish Government ‘does not allow them to suspend the human rights’, says an HRW report.

The document includes 13 cases of alleged physical abuses, conducted by the Turkish authorities. According to the paper, the police officers are beating, torturing and sexually assaulting the detainees.

‘By removing safeguards against torture, the Turkish government effectively wrote a blank check to law enforcement agencies to torture and mistreat detainees as they like’, said Europe and Central Asia director at Human Rights Watch Hugh Williamson.

‘The cases we have documented seem to indicate that some have done just that. Turkey’s government should reinstate these crucial safeguards now’, added Williamson.

Besides the violation of their human rights and using the state of emergency as an excuse to prolong their jail time with 30 days, the Turkish police do not allow the prisoners to talk with a lawyer unless five days of arrest have passed.

The Human Rights Watch urges Turkey to ‘immediately the terms imposed by the state of emergency that allows the human torture and other mistreatments’, adding that they violated the international law.
