The massive hacking that paralyzed a series of U.S. websites on Friday was conducted by a ‘non-state group’ and not by a foreign country. Allegedly, the group of hackers used hundreds of thousands of systems from different devices to connect to the Internet and to commit the attack.

‘The investigation is open. More data must be collected’, said the coordinator of U.S intelligence, James Clapper during an official conference.

Asked by the journalists if the cyber attack from Friday was initiated by a ‘non-state author’, Clapper said: ‘I don’t want to affirm that. It was one of the first conclusions’.

Numerous websites from the United States were blocked on Friday after the attack was initiated in various stages.

The public access to sites like Twitter, Spotify, Amazon or eBay became unavailable and no one knew what is going on.

Among the affected websites were also Reddit, Airbnb, Netflix, CNN, New York Times, Boston Globe, Financial Times and even The Guardian.

These websites were not the initial targets of the hackers. In fact, they were trying to hack Dyn’s website, a company that monitors and redistributes the Internet traffic and.

The hackers overwhelmed the servers with huge traffic flows, using hundreds of thousands of systems from different internet-connected devices, including cameras, baby monitors, gadgets, home routers, smart refrigerators without the owners to notice.

The specialists in cyber security warned people that a large number of home devices connected to the Internet could become a threat to your safety.
