Billionaire and former mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, has donated $50 million to the Museum of Science in Boston, which he loved in childhood since this is the largest donation ever received by the museum, informs AFP on Tuesday.
Bloomberg, 74, founder of the financial information agency that bears his name and one of the most important American philanthropists, went every Saturday at the museum where he lived with his family in Medford in Massachusetts (Northeast US), ten kilometers from Boston.
The mornings spent in this museum ‘represented important moments of my week,’ said the billionaire, according to a press release from the museum.
With a fortune of 41.7 billion dollars, according to Forbes, Michael Bloomberg took a while to the idea of presenting at the US presidential election, before dropping it in March this year.
The Museum of Science in Boston was opened in 1864 at the time the institution was bearing the name of the Natural History Museum. Currently, the museum receives 1.5 million visitors a year.
