Martin Scorsese announced the official launching of ‘Silence’

The American director announced on Monday during a social event in Tokyo the launch of his latest film entitled ‘Silence’.

Martin Scorsese’s most recent masterpiece is about the persecution of Christians in Japan during the seventeenth century – in extremis to compete at the 2017 Oscars, writes AFP.

Originally planned in 2015 and postponed several times, the screening in cinemas will take place in a restricted manner in ‘six or seven days starting from 23 December’. ‘Silence’ will be screened in the United States before its global launching scheduled for January, said Scorsese’s media director.

Among the actors who will be part of the cast are British Andrew Garfield, movie legend Liam Neeson, Adam Driver and Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano.

‘Silence’ was inspired by Japanese Catholic writer Shusaku Endo’s novel ‘Chinmoku’, the name means ‘Silence’ and it was written in 1966.

The novel tells the story of a group of Portuguese Jesuit missionaries from the eighteenth century. Who witnessed the tortures endured by the Japanese who converted to Christianity.

The adaptation of Shusako Endo’s novel is starring Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver as the main characters.

During an interview for Variety, Liam Neeson revealed that a few months ago that working with Scorsese can become really intimidating.

‘You can be intimidated when you work with him, you must be 100% dedicated and that requires an absolute silence on set, and if you hear the lowest sound  he is not capable of continuing the filming’, told the British actor.
