Robert De Niro Will Be Awarded The Chaplin Award

American actor Robert De Niro will receive the honorary Chaplin Award by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, an honorary distinction awarded annually to the most important persons in the world of the American film, during a gala on May 8, 2017, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Organization Film Society of Lincoln Center will celebrate the Oscar winner actor, who will be seen soon in “The Comedian” and as co-director of “A Bronx Tale on Broadway” gala on May-August next year.
The event will celebrate a multifaceted career in the cinema, including his filmography and independent film productions at Tribeca Film Festival and Tribeca Film Institute.
‘We are delighted to have the opportunity to honor the artistry of Robert De Niro, an iconic personality of New York,’ said Ann Tenenbaum, Chairman of the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
‘The way in which his character performer in New York helped define the city Acetic worldwide. De Niro has always been a legendary presence through its matchless artistry and interpretation of his role in the career stretched over several decades,’ said Lesli Klainberg, executive director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
‘If we follow his roles, in films such as Mean Streets, The Godfather Part II in Raging Bull and Awakenings, but also more recent roles such as the Silver Linings Playbook, we can observe the amazing evolution and unwavering commitment to his profession.’
Among other personalities of the film world who have received the Honorary annual Film Society include Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Laurence Olivier, Federico Fellini, Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis, James Stewart, Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sidney Poitier, Barbra Streisand, Robert Redford, and last year, Morgan Freeman.
For over 40 years, the organization of the film American films made public some of the greatest directors in the world including François Truffaut, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Jean-Luc Godard, Pedro Almodóvar and Martin Scorsese.
