The police vehicles literally ran over the protestants who gathered on Wednesday morning in front of the U.S. embassy from Manila.
According to DPA, the Manila authorities acted without the approval of the U.S. troops. The protestants were in the middle of the demonstration, in front of the embassy when the police officers started to disperse them.
According to Secretary General of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Renato Reyes, more than 1,000 demonstrators were intoxicated with tear gas and slammed by the abusive authorities.
The protesters threw red paint and on the embassy gates and vandalized the walls. They wrote all over the walls: ‘U.S. troops out!’ or ‘USA, a nuisance for workers!’.
‘They fired tear gas on the people, right in front of the U.S. embassy. Some protesters were hit by the police cars.’, posted Reyes on his Twitter page.
Reyes also said that 30 demonstrators were arrested, including a doctor and a nurse who cared for the wounded.
Three students were urged to a hospital after they were run over by the van driven by a police officer, protest leader Renato Reyes said.
‘There was absolutely no justification for it’, stated the diplomat Reyes about the dispersal of about 1,000 protesters.
‘Even as the president vowed an independent foreign policy, Philippine police forces still act as running dogs of the U.S.’, added him.
The main goal of the demonstration was to banish the U.S. troops from the country and to support Rodrigo Duterte’s foreign policy regarding Philippine’s dependency on the U.S., the country’s longtime ally.
