The ‘Illustrated World’ is a Romanian almanac meant to teach young housewives ‘interesting’ tips designated to keep your men happy and your marriage strong.

Although some of the advise provided by married women who collaborated at the almanac in 1934 are completely outdated and… crazy, some of them might become useful in our times as well.

So, here are some ridiculous rules that the wives from 1934 took into account in order to ensure themselves that men will not become tempted by other ‘distractions’.

‘If it’s possible to change your outfit every single day. Even if you don’t have a consistent wardrobe you can always improvise! Attach a different collar to an old dress, another ribbon or tie your cord in a different way!’

‘Don’t wear inside what you think it doesn’t suit you well outside when you go out.’

‘If you’re applying cream or powder on your face, make sure your only witness is the mirror.’

‘Never gargle in front of him.’

‘A good wife is responsible for establishing a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere in the house.’

‘Don’t bother him too much! Find sources to entertain him in the home. It doesn’t cost anything and it will make your relationship stronger.’

‘Give him the impression that he is a bachelor at least once a week. Let him go out alone and don’t ask  where he was going. Later he will tell you himself.’

‘Avoid the conversations about money. Only the thought that he is the responsible of earning them is enough!’

‘When you serve him coffee, make sure not to miss anything especially the ashtray.’

‘If you’re feeling sick, make sure you’re back on your feet as soon as possible.’
