Pope Francis to donate $100,000 dollars to the hurricane victims from Haiti

Pope Francis will donate $100,000 dollars for the Matthew victims in Haiti, the Vatican quoted by EFE reported Friday.

The hurricane caused numerous deaths and caused several material damages.

The donation will be made through the Pontifical Council ‘Cor Unum’, which is in charge of humanitarian activities, suggested the Vatican in a press statement.

The amount will be divided in two. The first part is going to be used to help the most affected victims and the second one will be used as an aid for the flood victims, suggested the note.

The donation, which will be sent to the local church represents ‘a first and immediate concrete expression of the paternal spiritual closeness and support from the Pope’, said the communiqué.

According to the press statement, numerous bishops and catholic charitable organizations are already involved in humanitarian activities.

After passing through Haiti, the natural disaster caused the death of 26 people and destroyed most of the houses.

The catastrophe caused by Matthew led to the postponement of the presidential election because the officials are too busy to help the victims.

The hurricane basically swept Haiti and Cuba, causing massive damage in the living areas, plantations and at the animal farms.

According to the UN Office of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA), 300,000 victims from Haiti need immediate assistance.

Haiti is one of the world’s poorest countries and many residents live in areas prone to flooding.
