Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published a comment made by Reinhard Veser regarding Kremlin’s plans to create the Ministry of State Security.
‘Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov labeled the Duma election’s result as – an impressive vote of confidence from the Russian people against the president. However, the trust is not mutual. This fact was demonstrated by Kremlin’s plans to create a Ministry of State Security, revealed (by accident), a day after the elections. If the plans are going to be initiated they will generate a suppression system, which, just like KGB, it will awake tragic memories among people’, wrote Reinhard Veser.
Putin’s support from a vast majority of people expressed through their votes for Kremlin and for the Pro-Kremlin Party, also known as ‘United Russia’ and the security measures just in case the situation changes again says a lot, added Vesser.
In these five years since the massive protests against the rigged elections from Duma, the regime became more repressive and, curiously, Putin’s popularity which at that time dropped significantly, increased extremely quick after the annexation of Crimea.
However, Russia’s main issues were not solved then and the administration should search the causes in right their country and certainly not abroad.
So far, Putin has ruled the country, relying on the support of a small group of the most powerful people in Russia.
Now, he plans to create a whole new structure, meant to summon all the existing security forces and to secure the personal power even more. Although Putin believes this an ideal solution, creating the new Ministry of State Security might weaken Russia even more.
