Mayor Sadiq Khan partners up with UEFA’s Aleksander Ceferin for the EURO 2020

The official countdown for the EURO 2020 officially started on Wednesday, during an event hosted by London’s city hall and the new president of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin.


Mayor Sadiq Khan and the new leader of UEFA unveiled the logo of the football competition, which features a more stylized version of Henri Delaunay’s trophy surrounded by colorful silhouettes and a bridge-shaped football field serving as the link between the competition and the host city.


‘I’m happy to be here in England, where football was born, a country that offered this sport to the world. The UEFA 2020 tournament represent a true celebration of this sport.’, said Ceferin.


Sadiq Khan added that he is more than happy to host the semifinals in his city and welcome football enthusiasts from all around Europe, in order to prove everyone that London is still an ‘open’ city.


Baku, Rome, Munich and St. Petersburg is going to host three opening and quarter matches, while Bucharest, Glasgow, Brussels, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Dublin, Budapest, and Bilbao are going to host three group stage matches.


During the ceremony, the officials launched the visual identity of the final tournament, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the European Championship. The matches will take place on 13 stadiums from 13 cities, in 13 countries.


At the unveiling ceremony from London attended the mayor of London Sadiq Khan, England’s national football team manager Sam Allardyce, the former British goalkeeper David James, the president of the British Football Federation Greg Clarke, the CEO of the Federation Martin Glenn and last but not least, the new UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.
