A team of scientists analyzed the images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope and confirmed the rumors announced in 2013, regarding the existence of water on the surface of Europe, one of Jupiter’s moons.

The vapors are probably a side effect of the geyser phenomena, which indicates a huge ocean of water under the ice cap that covers Europe. This means that Jupiter, after all, is an active planet.

The existence of these teams might represent the start of a new mission to Europe, in which a group of experts will collect samples from the moon, without the need to drill through the thick layer of ice.

‘The Europe Ocean is considered one of the most promising places to harbor life in the solar system’, said the director of the Science Mission Directorate from NASA Geoff Yoder.

‘These steam of water could offer us a new and easier method to collect samples from the basement of Europe’, added Yoder.

In December 2012, the Hubble telescope detected what appeared to be water vapors, spreading 200 kilometers into space, falling into the surface as rain drops.

The Europe moon has a global oceans, which contains twice as much water as Terra’s oceans gathered together. A fascinating part is that the massive ocean is hidden under an extremely thick layer of ice.

This breakthrough suggests that Europe has, besides water, enough energy to produce complex chemical reactions, capable of assuring the existence of extraterrestrial ecosystems in the solar system.

The full study, conducted by William Sparks’ team will be published in September issue of the Astrophysical Journal.
