The ‘Friends’ star closed a $2 million dollars worth deal with BBC.
In the last season, the American actor co-hosted the show with his friend Chris Evans.
Following Evans’ departure, LeBlanc negotiated with the producers for months in order to get this eye-popping paycheck.
According to Daily Mail, the 49-year-old signed a two-series deal and BBC agreed to LeBlanc’s terms after the Great British Bake Off turned out to be the biggest failure.
‘In the end, Matt’s great with the fans and gives the show stability as it’s due to start filming within days,’ stated BBC.
Evans decided to leave the motoring shows after the fans were not very pleased with his ‘shouty presenting style’.
During the negotiations for the new Top Gear series, the producers even offered Paul Hollywood in the new season.
We are not sure if Paul Hollywood’s hosting skills were very accurate for the motoring show, but BBC has now confirmed that Matt took the leading role, alongside racing driver Sabine Schmitz, F1 star Eddie Jordan, YouTube star Chris Harris, motoring journalist Rory Reid and The Stig.
LeBlanc’s major contract comes weeks after the furor surrounding Channel 4’s acquisition of Bake Off. After his last season, he was paid an estimated $500,000.
A source said: ‘Bake Off going to Channel 4 was a disaster and a real blow. Losing Matt because of a few diary arrangements would have spun Top Gear into crisis yet again.’
Top Gear series 24 returns to BBC Two next year.
