Eighteen people were killed on Wednesday in a drone attack carried out by the United States military in Afghanistan, Reuters wrote, citing Afghan officials, according to which most victims are insurgents, but among them being civilians as well.

Civilian casualties resulting from United States air strikes against the Taliban forces and other militants in Afghanistan is a source of friction between the allies fighting since 2001 to end the insurgent opposition against the government in Kabul.

Wednesday’s attack occurred on housing in Nangarhar province, located in the east of the country, bordering Pakistan, said Ali Mohammed, police chief of the district of Achin. He said that 15 militants were killed along with three civilians.

Several Islamic State leaders were killed, said a police spokesman of Nangarhar, Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, who denies that among the victims were also some non-combatants.

A spokesman for the US military command in Kabul confirmed that the US forces have conducted an air strike ‘terrorism’ act in Achin, but did not want to discuss the intended target afterwards.

‘The US forces in Afghanistan are treating all allegations of civilian casualties very seriously,’ said the General Brigadier, Charles Cleveland.

According to Attaullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the governor, the identification of any civilian casualties among those killed will not be possible until further investigations.

Afghanistan is officially one of the poorest countries. Unofficially, it is estimated, however, that is extremely rich in natural resources exploitation one of their main reasons for the desire of everyone to ‘help’.
